Glennie-Area ReConnect Fiber Expansion

Project Overview

Through funding awarded under the USDA ReConnect Program, Allband is preparing to expand its fiber network into Glennie and surrounding communities, bringing rural homes and businesses the fast, dependable internet they need.

  • Supports working from home, online education, streaming, telehealth, and business operations
  • Symmetrical speeds, so you upload as fast as you download
  • Serving Glennie and surrounding communities in Northeast Michigan
Project Status: October 2026

Allband continues working through the planning, engineering, funding coordination, and regulatory processes required to move this project into construction. These processes have caused delays, but our commitment to bringing fiber to Glennie and the surrounding areas has not changed.

  • Construction is currently anticipated to begin in Spring 2027
  • Timing is subject to completion of remaining approvals and project requirements
  • Service areas, construction schedules, and availability details will be shared as construction approaches
What Happens Next

We will share updates as the project reaches each milestone:

  • Planning & Engineering: Finalizing network designs and construction preparations
  • Construction: Beginning fiber installation, currently anticipated in Spring 2027
  • Network Deployment: Installing and testing the infrastructure needed to deliver service
  • Customer Connections: Notifying eligible residents and businesses when fiber is available at their address

Our Expansion Process

How We Bring Service to New Areas

Planning & Funding

Every expansion project begins with careful planning and coordination to ensure long-term success in rural areas. Because of the unique challenges of low population density and long distances between properties, funding plays a critical role in making expansion possible.

    • Federal and state grants support rural broadband growth
    • Cooperative reinvestment helps fund local infrastructure
    • Community interest and demand guide expansion priorities

Our goal is to bring service to areas that need it most while keeping costs manageable for our members.

Engineering & Design

Once an area is approved for expansion, our engineering team designs a network that delivers reliable performance across rural terrain. Every route is carefully planned to account for distance, geography, and long-term scalability.

    • Fiber routes mapped for maximum coverage and efficiency
    • Consideration of terrain, roadways, and property access
    • Designed to support future growth and increased demand

This phase ensures your connection will be strong, stable, and built to last.

Construction & Installation

After design is finalized, construction crews begin building the physical network that connects homes and businesses. This includes trenching, fiber placement, and installing equipment needed to deliver service.

    • Trenching and underground fiber installation
    • Placement of network equipment and connection points
    • Work completed with safety and minimal disruption in mind

Construction timelines can vary depending on weather, terrain, and project size, but our teams work efficiently to move projects forward.

Activation & Service
Once construction is complete, the final step is connecting individual homes and businesses to the network. Our team ensures every installation is smooth, reliable, and ready for immediate use.

    • Final testing to ensure network performance
    • Installation scheduled with each customer
    • Service activated quickly after connection

From start to finish, our goal is to make the transition to Allband service simple, reliable, and stress-free.
