Who We Are
Michigan’s First Not-For-Profit Telephone Cooperative
Allband Communications Cooperative isn’t just another telecommunications provider; we’re your neighbors, community members, and local problem-solvers who understand what it means to be overlooked by large providers. As Michigan’s first not-for-profit telephone cooperative, we were built on the belief that rural communities deserve the same access to reliable, high-quality connectivity as urban areas. Today, we proudly serve Northeastern Michigan with some of the most advanced fiber-optic technology available anywhere.
Our story began when local residents refused to accept “no” for an answer. That determination grew into a cooperative serving more than 150 members across 177 square miles in Alcona, Alpena, Oscoda, and Montmorency Counties. Where others saw unprofitable terrain and too few customers, we saw our home and a responsibility to serve it.
As a cooperative, our focus has always been on people, not profits. Every decision we make is guided by the needs of our members and the long-term health of our communities. By investing locally and building infrastructure where it’s needed most, Allband continues to bridge the digital divide and strengthen rural Michigan, one connection at a time.
Today we now serve over 1,500 previously unserved or underserved rural locations, with new expansions planned for 2026-2028.

In rural Michigan, reliable communication isn’t a luxury—it’s a lifeline. It can mean the difference between reaching 911 in an emergency or being on your own. It’s the ability to work from home, attend virtual doctor appointments, or help your children with online homework. It’s staying connected to the world when you’re miles from the nearest town, and knowing that help, education, and opportunity are never out of reach.
For decades, rural Northeastern Michigan was left behind. Major carriers looked at the forests, the distances between homes, and the small population, and they walked away. We didn’t have that option. This is our home, and we were determined to bring advanced telecommunications to every residence and business that needed it. Fiber internet, reliable phone service, and Wi-Fi coverage became more than conveniences; they became essential tools for safety, growth, and community well-being.
Our commitment goes beyond just providing service. Every connection we build strengthens the fabric of our communities, supporting local businesses, schools, and families. By focusing on people first, not profits, Allband Communications ensures that rural Michigan isn’t left behind—but empowered, connected, and ready for the future.
