Can I provide my own router instead of renting one?

Absolutely, but you’ll miss out on the network integration and monitoring that comes with the equipment being tied into our system! Also, service calls for issues related to your personal devices are billable.

View our service rates.

What does a router do?

It distributes the Internet to your devices (computer, phone, TV), wirelessly (Wi-Fi). It’s like a two-way radio that allows you to communicate with the Internet. You can also hardwire into the router via an ethernet cord. It also helps protect your devices by making sure only authorized traffic can access your network via a password. Some routers allow whitelisting or blacklisting.

What are Wi-Fi bands?

They are like different radio channels for your Internet signal.

There’s commonly a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band or channel. 2.4 GHz is better for distance (stronger/wider signal), while 5 GHz is better for speed (faster signal). You can switch bands to give you the best connection for your activity. Streaming may operate best on 5 GHz, for example.

Do routers need to be updated?

Yes, routers can get old. They typically last around 4-5 years. They can last longer; however, they may no longer be supported for firmware upgrades and will likely show their age. If you have slower speeds or connection issues, or your router often needs a reboot, this is something to check.

How can I test my speed?

Go to Speedtest by Ookla, and click Go. We are currently testing our own speed server.

What should I do if my service isn't working properly?
  1. First, power-cycle your router by unplugging it from power for about 10 seconds and plugging it back in.
  2. If you are also struggling with a particular device, like a TV for example, this is a good time to power-cycle that device as well.
  3. If the issue persists, contact us! We take support calls 24/7!
Can I place my service on hold while on vacation?

Save on monthly charges while you are away! Place your internet and/or phone services on hold until you return.

Backup Power During Outages
Phone service, including calls to 911, may be interrupted during a power outage because the equipment can’t operate without power. Many homeowners use a backup generator for occasional outages.

If you’d like another option, Allband has several backup battery solutions available for purchase.

Porting a Number

Want to keep your current number?

Complete the port authorization form and include the first page of your current provider’s most recent phone bill.

The bill must clearly show:

  • your name,
  • phone number,
  • address, and
  • account balance, and it must be less than 30 days old.

You can submit the form online or download the paper form.

The transfer takes about two weeks. During that time, keep your current phone service active and don’t submit any service changes to your current provider, or you could delay the transfer or lose your number.

**There may be prorations based on new service or changes requested.

Autopay runs on the 15th of each month, and payments are due by the 20th.

Late Fees: If a payment is missed, a late fee of $7.50 is applied, and service may be interrupted if not paid by the 11th of the following month, and no payment plan was set up.

Cancel or Move Service?

First, reach out to our office.

If you are moving your service to a new location, put in a new service application.

If cancelling, there are no cancellation fees unless equipment is damaged or not returned.

Please Note: You may have a pending balance, so make sure to give us your updated mailing address and schedule an equipment pickup.

Michigan 911 Fees

Michigan 911 Fees can be found here:

Non-Sufficient Funds

If your payment is rejected due to insufficient funds in your bank account, you’ll be charged an NSF fee. You may also incur a late payment fee if the failed payment causes you to miss your bill’s due date.

Payment Options

We accept most credit cards, debit cards, and checks for payments. To help you avoid late fees, we can set up automatic payments.

You can make payments online, by mail, or by phone.

**The $3.25 surcharge for card payments is being eliminated as we move to our new billing system.

Shutoff For Non-Payment
What happens if I fall behind on my bill?

Life doesn’t always go as planned, and we get that. If you’re having trouble making a payment, the most important thing you can do is reach out to us — communication really is key, and we’re here to help you stay connected.

Payment & Due Dates

Payment is due on or before the date shown on your billing statement. A $7.50 late fee applies to any past-due balance over $15.00.

Before Service Is Ever Shut Off

We don’t disconnect without fair warning. You’ll get several email reminders along the way — including a notice if your card on file is expiring, one day after a missed payment, again at five days, and a final delinquency warning at 15 days. If we don’t have an email on file for you, you’ll receive one notice by mail instead.

Just a heads up: it’s on you to make sure your contact and payment info stays current with us — that’s what keeps these reminders reaching you in time.

To avoid any interruption, your past-due balance needs to be paid in full by the 11th day after a missed payment. (For example: if a payment is missed on October 20th, it’s due by November 11th.)

Going through a rough patch financially? Reach out to us before your disconnection date — we’re happy to talk through a payment plan or extension.

If Service Are Disconnected

If payment isn’t received by day 11, or an agreed-upon payment arrangement falls through; service may be disconnected during normal business hours. We never disconnect on weekends, holidays, or the day before one.

Getting reconnected just takes paying your past-due balance plus a $60 reconnection fee (a deposit may also be required in some cases).

Paying online? Give our office a quick call so we can get your service restored as fast as possible.

We Appreciate You

Allband is a not-for-profit built to serve rural communities that big providers often overlook. Every customer matters to us, and we’re grateful for your effort to stay current — it genuinely helps us keep serving Northern Michigan the way we set out to.
