What does a router do?

What does a router do?
_
It distributes the Internet to your devices (computer, phone, TV), wirelessly (Wi-Fi). It’s like a two-way radio that allows you to communicate with the Internet. You can also hardwire into the router via an ethernet cord. It also protects your devices making sure only authorized traffic can access your network via a password. Some routers allow whitelisting or blacklisting.
_
What are Wi-Fi bands?
_
They are like different radio channels for your Internet signal. There’s commonly a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band or channel. 2.4 GHz is better for distance (stronger/wider signal), while 5 GHz is better for speed (faster signal). You can switch bands to give you the best connection for your activity. Streaming may operate best on 5 GHz, for example.
_
Do routers need to be updated?
_
Yes, routers can get old. They typically last around 4-5 years. They can last longer; however, they may no longer be supported for firmware upgrades and will likely show their age. If you have slower speeds or connection issues, or often needs a reboot, this is something to check.

How can I test my speeds?

Go to speedtest.net by Ookla, and click Go. We are currently testing our own speed server.

What should I do if my service isn’t working properly?

  1. First power-cycle your router by unplugging it from power for about 10 seconds and plugging it back in.
  2. If you are also struggling with a particular device, like a TV for example, this is a good time to power-cycle that device as well.
  3. If the issue persists, contact us! We take support calls 24/7 at 989-369-9999.

Can I place my service on hold while on vacation?

Save on monthly charges while you are away! Place your internet and/or phone services on hold until you return. allband.org/seasonal/

During power outages, the use of phone services, including the ability to contact 911 emergency services and other calls, may be disrupted as it will not operate without power. Many homeowners have already employed the use of backup generators for occasional power events. For those who would like another resource, Allband has several options available for purchase. Bill Dates

Bills are emailed monthly on the first day of the month. Charges are dated from the beginning to the end of that billing month. There may be prorations based on new service or changes requested.

Autopay runs on the 15th each month, and payments are due by the 20th. If a payment is missed, a late fee of $7.50 is applied, and service may be interrupted if not paid by the 11th of the following month and no payment plan was set up.

Cancel or Move Service

First, reach out to our office.

If you are moving your service to a new location, put in a new service application.

If cancelling, there are no cancellation fees unless equipment is damaged or not returned. Please note that you may have a pending balance, so make sure to give us your updated mailing address and schedule an equipment pickup.

Michigan 911 Fees

Michigan 911 Fees can be found here:

michigan.gov/msp/divisions/911committee/911-funding

Non-Sufficient Funds

If your payment is rejected due to insufficient funds in your bank account, you’ll be charged an NSF fee. You may also incur a late payment fee if the failed payment causes you to miss your bill’s due date.

Payment Options

We accept credit cards, debit cards, and checks for payments. To help you avoid late fees, we can set up automatic payments. You can make payments online, by mail, or by phone.

Shutoff Policy for Nonpayment

At Allband, we value our customers and understand that life doesn’t always go as planned. Communication is key — if you’re having trouble making a payment, please reach out to us as soon as possible!

Payment and Due Date

Payment is due on or before the date shown on your billing statement. A $7.50 late fee will be added to any past-due balance over $15.00.

Before Service is Shut Off

We’ll send several email reminders before disconnection — including a notice when a card is expiring, one day after a payment is missed, again five days after, and again 15 days after with a final delinquency warning. Customers who do not provide an email address will receive one delinquency notice by mail. Note: It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that contact and payment information are accurate and up to date.

To avoid interruption, the past-due balance must be paid in full by the 11th day after a missed payment. Example: If a payment was missed on October 20, it must be paid by November 11.

If you’re experiencing financial hardship, please reach out before the disconnection date to request a payment plan or extension!

Disconnection and Reconnection

If payment isn’t received by the 11th — or if a payment arrangement isn’t made or kept — service may be disconnected during normal business hours only. We do not disconnect on weekends, holidays, or the day before them.

Service can be restored once the past-due balance and $60 reconnection fee are paid. A deposit may also be required in some cases. If paying online, please notify our office so we can restore service quickly.

On behalf of Allband, we truly value your business and support as we continue to address the rural broadband digital divide. Allband is a not-for-profit and focuses its efforts on rural areas that are commonly ignored by larger phone and Internet companies. We can be reached Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm at (989) 369-9999 for payment, or via email at info@allbandcomm.com.
